ABSTRACTStudies examining the interpretation that is given to if–then statementstypically use what are referred to as basic conditionals, which give contextless relations between two unrelated concrete terms. However, there is some evidence that basic conditionals require a more abstract form of representation. In order to examine this, we presented participants with truth-table tasks involving either basic conditionals or conditionals referring to imaginary categories, and standard conditional inference tasks with abstract and familiar premises. As expected, fewer typical defective conditional interpretations were (...) given to basic conditionals. In addition, partial correlations showed a unique relationship between the interpretation of basic conditionals and abstract inferential reasoning. La acción a distancia se ha considerado muy a menudo como un medio de explicación inaceptable en la física. Debido a que daba la impresión de resistirse a los intentos de asignarle causas propias a los efectos, la acción a distancia se ha proscrito como sinsentido ocultista. El rechazo de la acción a distancia fue el principal precepto del aristotelismo que fue tan dominante en la filosofía natural europea, y hasta hoy permanece como un prejuicio principal de la física moderna. (...) No obstante, hubo un período de interregno; un período durante el cual las acciones a distancia eran fácilmente aceptadas por un número ignificativo de filósofos naturales. La principal influencia sobre este nuevo enfoque radical hacia la naturaleza de la causalidad física fue, por supuesto, Isaac Newton. El principio de gravitación universal de Newton a muchos les pareció dar no sólo un ejemplo innegable de una fuerza cuya naturaleza no se podía producir por ningún tipo de contacto mecánico entre los cuerpos, sino también un modelo para otras supuestas fuerzas que podían suponerse que dan cuenta de los fenómenos químicos, biológicos y otros fenómenos físicos. In various contexts, it is thought to be important that we reason together. For instance, an attractive conception of democracy requires that citizens reach lawmaking decisions by reasoning with one another. Reasoning requires that reasoners survey the considerations that they take to be reasons, proceed by a coherent train of thought, and reach conclusions freely. De facto reliance on experts threatens the possibility of collective reasoning by making some reasons collectively unsurveyable, raising questions about the coherence of the resulting train (...) of thought. De jure reliance on experts threatens the possibility of collective reasoning by seeming to make some conclusions irreversible. The paper argues that collective reasoning that relies on experts would nonetheless be possible if the unsurveyable reasons "mesh," if the expert considerations are at least in principle publicly recoverable, and if de jure authority of expert decision is always subject to appeal. Le christianisme bouleverse notre conception de l'homme parce qu'il refuse la manière dont celui-ci se comprend depuis toujours à partir du monde, de sa vérité et de ses lois. Selon le christianisme, l'homme ne procède pas du monde mais de Dieu: il est son " Fils ". Or Dieu est Vie, Vie qui ne se montre en aucun monde, qui s'éprouve elle-même dans son intériorité invisible. L'autorévélation de la Vie est l'essence de Dieu. Cette épreuve de soi de la Vie (...) fonde tout Soi et tout Moi, toute individualité et tout individu - tout " homme " concevable. L'opposition de la Vérité de la Vie et de la vérité du monde permet, d'autre part, de savoir que Jésus est le Christ. Dans le monde, Jésus a l'apparence d'un homme. C'est seulement en se plaçant à l'intérieur du mouvement de la Vie qu'on peut saisir comment celle-ci génère en elle un Premier Vivant et, en lui, tout vivant possible. Ce livre ne demande donc pas si le christianisme est vrai ou faux. Il met à nu le genre de Vérité que le christianisme professe et propose aux hommes. L'intelligence de la pensée de Marx suppose la mise hors jeu du marxisme. Le marxisme s'est constitué en doctrine achevée et officielle alors que les écrits philosophiques fondamentaux de Marx demeuraient inconnus, et notamment L'idéologie allemande, publié en 1932. Reposant sur des textes qui ne portent pas leur principe d'intelligibilité en eux-mêmes, il s'est, de plus, voulu en accord avec l'objectivisme moderne. Par une lecture entièrement neuve de l'oeuvre complète de Marx, Michel Henry en dévoile l'intuition fondatrice : la (...) subjectivité corporelle de l'individu vivant, qui définit à la fois son existence et sa condition de travailleur. Une phénoménologie de la vie concrète constitue identiquement chez Marx la mise à nu de tout le système économique et le principe unique de son explication : la philosophie de la réalité porte en elle la philosophie de l'économie. La valeur est produite exclusivement par le travail vivant. Le des-tin du capital est donc celui de la praxis subjective de l'individu. Clifton, Butterfield, and Redhead [1989] have constructed two separate arguments that bear some resemblances to a proof of mine pertaining to the nonlocal character of quantum theory. Their arguments have flaws, which they point out. Organizational purpose has flourished in the professional management literature, yet despite increased scholarly interest, academic knowledge and empirical research on the topic remain scarce. Moreover, studies that have been conducted contain important oversights including the lack of a clear conceptualization and misinterpretations that hinder the further development and understanding of organizational purpose. In view of these shortcomings, our interview study aimed to contribute to academic and societal conversations on the contemporary meaning and function of organizational purpose considering the voices and (...) perspectives of 44 global experts. Employing template analysis, we defined organizational purpose as “an organization’s reason for being characterized by significance, aspiration, direction, unification, and motivation.” Moreover, we proposed an explanatory conceptual model, including drivers and outcomes of purpose, important boundary conditions, and explanatory mechanisms. Drawing on self-determination theory, person–organization fit theory, job characteristics theory, and conservation of resources theory, we were able to explain how and under what conditions these concepts are related to organizational purpose. In doing so, our research contributes to advancing the knowledge and understanding of organizational purpose and its effects on human lives within and outside organizations. Our study thereby enhances the understanding of the role of organizations in society and helps in evaluating whether organizations take responsibility by living their purpose in the society they are part of. As such, our study provides important insights for theory development, scale development, and further empirical research on organizational purpose and its effects in different streams such as OB, HRM, marketing, leadership, and strategy. Encontraremos que el aura no puede dar cuenta de la tragedia griega en cuanto esta última, en vez de experimentarse como una lejanía, se vive y describe como una inmersión que, pese a todo, mantiene (...) su valor cultual. El trabajo contestará, primero, qué es el aura; luego, cómo entiende Nietzsche a la tragedia griega; finalmente, abordará el cruce aura-tragedia. (shrink)

Não procurando realizar uma análise comparada, procura-se apontar algumas aproximações e alguns distanciamentos. Como mediadores desta tentativa de leitura, utilizamos uma carta de Walter Benjamin e os comentários de Modesto Carone sobre a parábola de Kafka.

O ensaio trata da IV Consideração Extemporânea, Tichard Wagner em Bayreuth, onde Nietzsche, num momento de tensão, procura compreender o sentido do grande empreendimento que era a fundação do Festival de Bayreuth, dedicado exclusivamente à exibição dos gramas musicais de Wagner. Pode-se notar que Nietzsche já está dividido entre a "metafísica do artista" da juventude e a "fisiologia da rte", que constitui o centro de seu pensamento estético tardio.

'Ces Études et discussions sur Pic de la Mirandole (1463-1494) reçurent à leur première publication un excellent accueil auprès des spécialistes de ce philosophe italien de la Renaissance. En mettant en lumière la dimension essentiellement chrétienne de sa pensée, Henri de Lubac réfutait l’humanisme prométhéen qu’on voulait y voir, au profit d’un authentique humanisme puisant dans la foi catholique sa conception de la liberté et de la dignité humaine. Théologien dans son explication des six jours de la Genèse, Pic de (...) la Mirandole se révèle aussi pourfendeur du déterminisme astrologique et réconcilie Aristote et Platon sans céder jamais aux syncrétismes réducteurs. L’ouvrage du père de Lubac – présenté ici avec la traduction inédite de toutes ses citations – demeure d’une brûlante actualité, dans le contexte d’une crise anthropologique où les sectateurs du transhumanisme annexent Pic de la Mirandole à leur vision d’un Homo Deus se créant lui-même dans une transgression sans limite. À ceux-ci, comme aux adeptes d’un « ésotérisme » mirandolien, ces Études et discussions, nourries par une érudition exceptionnelle, répondent aujourd’hui, dans un style incisif, en dégageant la vérité profonde du jeune penseur, mort prématurément, qui affirmait : « Qu’on ne m’empêche pas de pouvoir me dire chrétien! »'. In lieu of an abstract, here is a brief excerpt of the content:Journal of the History of Ideas 62.1 (2001) 99-119 [Access article in PDF] Animism and Empiricism: Copernican Physics and the Origins of William Gilbert's Experimental Method John Henry In the second year of this journal's run, way back in 1941, appeared Edgar Zilsel's classic and still widely cited paper on The Origins of William Gilbert's Experimental Method. 1 Focusing on Gilbert's De magnete of 1600, undoubtedly a seminal (...) text in the history of the experimental method, 2 Zilsel argued that Gilbert borrowed his methodology from elite craftsmen, artisans, and other manual workers involved in mining, smelting, smithing, compass making, navigation, sailing, and other activities which involved working with iron or with magnets. 3 On its appearance the paper contributed to a growing and still continuing debate in the history of science about the relative importance of scholars and craftsmen in the origins of modern science. Although Zilsel's general thesis has been critically evaluated in terms of that wider debate, 4 his very specific claims about the [End Page 99] role of elite craftsmen in providing Gilbert with a ready-made experimental method, have never been properly considered. This paper attempts to reassess Zilsel's claims about the origin of Gilbert's experimental method and, in so doing, to arrive at a richer understanding of what Gilbert was trying to do in De magnete and to suggest an alternative source for his experimentalism.The first thing to note about Zilsel's argument is that it had two strands. 5 One of these pointed to actual experimental techniques used by Gilbert and showed that they can all be found in earlier writings on magnets. To be more specific, the techniques in question are to be found either in the thirteenth-century "Letter on the Magnet" written by Petrus Pergrinus or Pierre de Maricourt, first published in 1558, or in The Newe Attractive, a work on the magnetic compass written by a retired mariner, Robert Norman, first published in 1581 but reprinted three times before 1600. 6 The second strand did not involve experiments at all, with one notable exception, but simply implied or suggested that Gilbert's experimental techniques must have been inspired by miners and foundrymen, or navigators and instrument makers. The problem here, as others have objected, 7 is that it is by no means clear that elite craftsmen were engaged in performing experiments in anything like the sense of the word required for the argument to cut any ice. For Zilsel, however, "we cannot doubt that many of [the miners and foundrymen of the period], stimulated to improvements by economic competition, were wont to try new techniques and to observe natural processes." 8 A few sentences later we are told that it is "obvious" that "among such manual labourers there were experimentalists, though experimentalists with practical aims only and without theoretical knowledge." 9 [End Page 100]The philosopher of science at this point might legitimately want to suggest that an experiment is not an experiment unless it is testing a theory, but we do not have to enter into such arguable niceties. 10 We can see that there is something profoundly tendentious in Zilsel's claims simply by reading on. At this point Zilsel mentioned the only experiment specifically referred to in this strand of his argumentation. Quoting Gilbert, Zilsel showed that Gilbert himself must have descended into a mine in order, as Zilsel says, "to verify the hypothesis" that the polarity of a magnet derives from the polarity of the earth: We had a twenty pounds' heavy loadstone dug and hauled out after having first observed and marked its ends in its vein. Then we put the stone in a wooden tub on water, so that it could turn freely. Historically embryogenesis has been among the most philosophically intriguing phenomena. In this paper I focus on one aspect of biological development that was particularly perplexing to the ancients: self-organisation. For many ancients, the fact that an organism determines the important features of its own development required a special model for understanding how this was possible. This was especially true for Aristotle, Alexander, and Simplicius, who all looked to contemporary technology to supply that model. However, they did not all agree on (...) what kind of device should be used. In this paper I explore the way these ancients made use of technology as a model for the developing embryo. I argue that their different choices of device reveal fundamental differences in the way each thinker understood the nature of biological development itself. In the final section of the paper I challenge the traditional view (dating back to Alexander's interpretation of Aristotle) that the use of automata in GA can simply be read off from their use in the de motu. Traiano Boccalini (1556-1613) auteur des Ragguagli di Parnaso (1612 et 1613) prend position dans le débat sur l’interprétation républicaine de Machiavel : l’auteur du Prince a-t-il écrit pour aider la monarchie ou bien contre elle ? Boccalini semble prendre une position nuancée, affirmant que si l’on condamne Machiavel c’est justement parce qu’il pourrait trop bien servir aux républicains. Lui-même utilise la métaphore du berger, traditionnellement liée à l’idée religieuse, pour montrer que le monarque n’est pas le berger désintéressé du troupeau (...) humain comme il voudrait le faire croire, mais un berger tout attaché au profit qu’il peut tirer de ses brebis. L’ironie dénonce une image pastorale (idyllique) de la monarchie mais Boccalini n’en n'appelle pas pour autant au soulèvement, source des plus grandes souffrances. (shrink)

Para lo cual se presenta la teoría pura de la guerra a partir de Carl Von Clausewitz; la cual se muestra como condición necesaria para los modelos formales. Luego de ello se demarcan los alcances de estos modelos y sus limitaciones.

In the Introduction to his Old English Glosses, published in 1900, the late Professor Napier asserted that Aldhelm glosses are to be found in the Corpus Glossary. He did not attempt any elaborate argument, but contented himself with giving a list of sixty-four instances in which the lemmata of the Corpus Glossary coincide entirely with words occurring in the text of the De Virginitate. Of these lemmata, twenty-three occur also in the Epinal and Erfurt Glossaries, and must therefore have existed (...) in the common archetype of the three collections. Napier's conclusion was that the compiler of the archetype had before him one Aldhelm glossary, and that the author of the Corpus Glossary, who rearranged the material of the archetype and made extensive additions, had among his sources another and an independent glossary.
